Shahid Diwas

Martyrs’ Day, known as “Shahid Diwas” in Nepal, is observed on Magh 16 of the Nepali calendar, which usually falls in late January. This day is dedicated to remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by individuals who fought for the country’s freedom and sovereignty.

One of the most significant events associated with Martyrs’ Day is the execution of four prominent figures in Nepalese history: Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha. They were executed on Magh 10, 1997 B.S. (January 28, 1941 AD) during the autocratic Rana regime for their involvement in the struggle against the oppressive government.

On Shahid Diwas, various events and ceremonies are organized across the country to pay homage to the martyrs and their contributions to the nation’s independence. People participate in rallies, discussions, and other activities to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and democracy in Nepal.
