Fraud in international employment on the rise.

Fraud in international employment on the rise. As the number of Nepalese seeking international jobs has increased, so have the number of incidences of fraud in this industry. From July to October of the current fiscal year, 1,148 individuals and institutions reported fraud in overseas employment. The complaints were filed by 1,077 males and 141 women, according to the People’s Forum for Human Rights.

According to Sudip Devkota, a lawyer at the Forum, 3,155 individuals and institutions filed fraud-related complaints in fiscal year 2021/22. Every day, workers who go to work in foreign countries complain about fraud and the different obstacles they experience. While the government claims that foreign employment will be safe, orderly, and dignified, the number of incidences of migrant workers being duped has not decreased.

Lawyer Devkota, the Forum’s coordinator of free legal aid, stated that the government is unable to spend the amount of remittances flowing into the country for the protection of employees going abroad for work. Despite the fact that the government, corporate leaders, and human rights campaigners have criticized foreign workers for their lack of awareness, the youth’s grievances have not been heard. He claimed that Nepali youth are being duped under many guises since government authorities are unable to make sound decisions in the best interests of workers in any international employment program.

According to the Forum, from fiscal year 2019/20 until October 2022, 6,778 workers, both individually and institutionally, made complaints alleging various sorts of fraud. According to the Forum’s data, the number of complaints in 2021/22 grew by 2,092 over the previous fiscal year (2019/20). Males filed 2,728 individual and institutional complaints in fiscal year 2021/22, while females filed 427.

Similarly, in fiscal year 2020/21, 1,412 persons complained both individually and institutionally. There were 1,244 men and 168 women among them. According to Devkota, the government and business leaders are blaming each other for the distortions in the sector of international employment.

According to statistics, workers who have gone overseas for work are more likely to be scammed at home than abroad.
According to the Forum’s research, 422 people have accepted money from workers since the start of the current fiscal year in October but have not sent it outside.
