15000 MW of hydroelectricity will be generated over five years: Ghising. Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has stated that Nepal’s hydropower production capacity will reach 3,000 megawatts during the current fiscal year.
Ghising stated on the occasion of National Tax Day on Wednesday that Nepal’s hydropower producing capacity will reach 3,000 megawatts within the current fiscal year as numerous hydropower projects begin generating electricity.
According to Ghising, Nepal’s hydropower generation capacity will reach 15,000 megawatts during the next 5-6 years.
He stated that when energy generation hits 15,000 megawatts, the electrical authority will get approximately five billion rupees in revenue.
He stated that when hydropower production reaches 3,000 megawatts, the government should receive 50 billion rupees in revenue. He stated that the authority pays the government 1.7 billion rupees every year. A hydroelectric plant generates approximately Rs 70 crore in revenue for the electricity authority.
“It appears that the promotion of hydropower will contribute significantly to Nepal in terms of taxes and royalties,” Ghising added. It will reach 5,000 megawatts in 2/3 years. In the first five months of this year, we exported electricity worth around 11 billion rupees. Previously, we purchased electricity worth 11 billion rupees during this period, but now we sell. As a result, energy is a critical topic for the country’s economy.”
