Nepali donation platform ‘Buy me a Mo:Mo’

Sursa Technologies, a Nepali software and web development company, has created a website where donation for various purposes can be collected.  Social activists, content creators and people in need of donations can collect funds through this platform named ‘buy me a Mo:Mo‘.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dilip Thapa, believes that the ‘By Me Mo:Mo’ platform will help many social workers. On Tuesday, Sursa launched the website by organizing a program at its own office in Kathmandu.

Motive of  donation platform ‘buy me a Mo:Mo’

As international payment methods are available in other countries, there are various sites for collecting funds. In Nepal, social workers collect aid through bank accounts, the transparency of which is constantly questioned. As an alternative, ‘By Me A mo:mo’ website was launched.

By Me A Coffee,’ a fund-raising website, is well-known on a global scale. Similarly, Sursa Technologie launched ‘By Me A mo:mo’ as a Nepali site of the same nature. The famous dish of Nepal “mo:mo” is the inspiration to the name of the site. The site is determined to make collecting funds for the support of various individuals, organizations or communities more transparent and easy.

How does this work?

On this platform, you can also see how much money has been collected.A specific donation amount can also be requested for any reason. According to Thapa, not only social workers but also anyone can collect the necessary amount. For example : If a student is good in studies, and he needs funds for further studies, he can collect support through ‘By Me A mo:mo’.

Similarly, various content creators can acquire assistance from their followers on TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook. According to Thapa, content creators can use it as an alternative to Stream Labs.

To collect funds from the ‘Buy Mo:Mo ‘platform, the individual must first login to the website. They must specify in the description why they have collected the funds. Then you will be given a donation link. The same link should be shared on any social media platform where you are active, as well as on any other medium.

Meanwhile, the “Buy Mo:Mo” team approves that individual or organization. An approved person receives a verified badge.Users can contribute funds based on their level of interest.A person who wants to collect money must look for the link sent by the person who requested assistance.

After that, they can access the local wallet (e-service or pocket) and contribute the desired amount. The collected amount is deposited into the collector’s “Buy Mo:Mo” account. That individual can deposit the funds in his bank.

The payment system charges a one and a half to two percent commission, while “Buy Mo:Mo” charges a five percent commission. According to Thapa, if funds are collected for social work, the company will not charge a service fee.

Currently, this team is trying to provide a service for YouTubers similar to StreamLabs (a platform where content creators who have gone live on the platform can send money and messages of their choice).

Similarly, the company intends to promote “Buy Mo:Mo” as a simple way for Nepalis in other countries to help themselves. He stated that the service will be made public in two to three weeks while they work on the legal process.
