Makwanpuri Chhurpi by Bhutandevi Dairy Farm

Chhurpi is a traditional cheese usually enjoyed in Nepal’s Himalayan. areas. Chhurpi is prepared from the milk of naks (female yaks), cows, and chauris (a cross between yaks and local hill cows). It is a great source of protein for people all over the Himalayan region, including Tibet, Darjeeling, Sikkim and Illam. Churpi is one of the most enjoyed flavor of Nepal and it is loved by all regions of Nepal. This product is now famous outside Nepal too.

Similarly, a local Nepalese entrepreneur Mr. Amir Dhakal came with an idea to produce Chhurpi in his own hometown Makwanpur. He is 38 years old and has his own dairy farm i.e. Bhutandevi Dairy Farm. Owning a dairy farm he saw an opportunity to convert the unused milk to produce Chhurpi.

Mr.Dhakal said he got this idea when he went to Illam during the pandemic of Covid 19 to visit his friends. He was really inspired by the Chhurpi making process and thought this product would be best for his dairy. During covid 19, the sales of milk gradually decreased and huge quantity of milk was unused. So, he thought why should we waste the milk when it can be converted into something more flavorful and can be stored for many years. They made in a very hygienic way with the best quality of materials.

He stared producing Chhurpi from the pandemic. It took his a while to know the process, get used to it. Now he has been making 28-30 kgs of churpi with 500liters of milk a day with additional 15 kgs of butter. Mr.Dhakal has been exporting his product to local market of Makwanpur as well as Kathmandu. His production and sales both are going well and are loved by all customer. Makwanpur  churpi makes 2-3 tons of  sale in 15 days .
