Mind-Blowing facts about Jellyfish

In 1991, scientist sent 2000 Jellyfish into outer space in an experiment. They wanted to know how these marine animals would react to new environment. To their surprise, the lack of gravity did not bother the Jellyfish enclosed in capsules. They reproduced, creating 60 thousand new jellyfish and polyps. However, scientists found that jellyfish born in space were not like earth. when they were brought back, all the space born jelly fish died on earth.

these creatures are swaying in oceans for past 500 million years. This means the predate the dinosaurs by more than 250 million years. these marine animals have survived all the five mass extinction events in history. that also includes the great dying, when 96% of the life was wiped out from Earth.

These animals have very simple anatomy- 95% of their bodies are composed of water. Their evolutionary success can be attributed to two significant factors. The first is their umbrella shape, and second is their reproduction. 2 jellyfish reproduce and create what is known as Polyp.
Polyps are static, soft-bodies animals that may not seem like animals st first. Polyps then spawn new, young umbrella-like-jellyfish

Most of them feed on any small prey, including fish, shrimp, and even small turtles. The bos jellyfish is the most poisonous marine organism ever discovered. It looks like cube with tentacles covered in poison-filled darts. Getting stung by those jellyfish could kill a fully grown human within minutes.

There’s species of Jellyfish called Turritopsis dohrnii thought to be immortal. When it gets harmed, it settles at the bottom of the sea and creates a polyp colony.

Therefore, the animal never really dies, and can switch forms and live forever. These simple organism have their unique methods to hunt in the water. The elegantly swimming animals enrich the marine ecosystem with beautiful views. Some are bio luminescent-producing light of their own and having an internal glow.
Some jellyfish creates series of flashes too attract their predators.

Jellyfish are one of s few type of animals unharmed because of climate change. Who knows, maybe they could outlive the humans. Just like they outlived billions of other species in the history of earth
