Mangal Maitri Chant in Vipassana

The Mangal Maitri Chant is a traditional Buddhist chant that is often recited in Vipassana meditation retreats. It is a chant that expresses well-wishes for all beings and is intended to promote a sense of loving-kindness and compassion. It is taught and practiced on the 10th(last) day of the Vipassana meditation course in Kathmandu Vipassana meditation center.

The Mangal Maitri Chant goes as follows:

“May all beings be happy, May all beings be healthy, May all beings be safe, May all beings live with ease.”

This chant is often repeated several times, with the meditator visualizing each line of the chant and extending well wishes to all beings. The goal of this practice is to cultivate a sense of empathy, kindness, and compassion towards oneself and others.

In Vipassana meditation, this chant may be used as a way to begin or end a meditation session or as a means of developing a positive attitude towards oneself and others. By reciting the Mangal Maitri Chant, meditators may be able to develop a greater sense of connection with others and a deeper sense of inner peace.
