Election Commission is enforcing election code of conduct in advance of the November 20 House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections. The strict application of the election code contributes to free and fair elections.
Election Commissioner SagunShumsher Rana argued on Friday at a province-level orientation organized here with the coordination of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that the election code must be effectively implemented to ensure the integrity of elections. “The EC is committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. As a result, all parties involved must follow the code “He went on to say that committees formed from the district to the central levels were monitoring whether the code was being followed.
He also warned that the EC will not only seek clarification but will also take action against those who violate the code.
If anyone is found breaking the code, EC is ready to take action against him or her right away.
Rana urged the media to disseminate accurate election information. The media plays an important role in educating voters. Brajesh Pyakurel, the chief returning officer in Dhanusha, also stated that the media could play an important role in ensuring free and fair elections.
On the occasion, RSS Board Member Krishna Adhikari stated that the media should write and disseminate news while keeping both the election code of conduct and the journalists’ code of conduct in mind.
The media should carry out its responsibilities in such a way that it contributes to the creation of a favorable environment for the November 20 election.
Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Election Commission, stated that clarification was sought from 40 people out of 71 complaints filed on violations of the election code.
Similarly, he claims that a ward chairperson was fined Rs 5,000 for violating the election code.
