Mahaastami 8th day of Bada Dashain,

Today is the 8th day of the Bada Dashain festival, which is celebrated throughout the country.

Durga, the goddess revered as a symbol of strength and protection of good against evil, is highly revered during Dashain.

On th 8th day, also known as Mahaashtami, Hindus worship three major goddesses in Hinduism: Mahakali, Mahalaxmi, and Mahasaraswati, especially those from the hilly regions. The three forms represent strength, prosperity, and knowledge, in that order.

People celebrate by performing religious rituals at their homes and visiting various shrines. Dashain-ghar hosts a special Durga Pooja and prayer ceremonies (places of Dashain worship).

The Newas gather as a family and celebrate with kuchhi bhwey (where, kuchhi means two mana and bhwey means feast).Dashain is known as Mohni Nakha among the Newa people, but both celebrations have their own meaning.

Also on this day, at midnight, a special Kalratri worship is held at the Dashain-ghar of Hanumandhoka in the capital.
