Nepal Telecom plans to launch e-SIM in Nepal from the Shrawan. NTC signed an agreement with Monty UK Global Limited in April 2022 to provide telecom with an eSIM platform.
Nepal Telecom will be the country’s first carrier to support eSIM connections. In order to deploy its own this platform, the telecom operator first budgeted for the project in fiscal year 2078/079. For the time being, NTC will rely on a third-party solution for their this platform.
What is an e-Sim?
An eSIM is a SIM card that is embedded in a mobile device and can connect you to any operator offering its services. This functions similarly to a traditional SIM card. It does not require to use a physical SIM card . It is actually pre-installed in the device, and you can activate it by installing a new operator’s “eSIM profile.”
This is a type of programmable SIM card that is built into a device. It is supported by the GSMA.
How does this work ?
We can easily install an it profile with an eSIM compatible device. Then we have to purchase an it’s data plan on the go on. Furthermore, we can use multiple operators and subscribe to multiple data plans at the same time. At the same time to meet your needs when traveling, working from home or remotely.
Key benefits of eSim:
- It eliminates the hassle of obtaining a physical SIM card.
- If you travel frequently, this is also a good option. You can stay connected anywhere, at any time, no matter how frequently or abruptly you change locations.
- This technology service provides mobile connectivity anywhere, at any time.
- Once it’s profile is installed on your device, it’s always available and ready to use.
In any case, if everything goes as planned, it will be available in Nepal by the Shrawan. In the first year, NTC hopes to distribute approximately 1,50,000 e-sims in Nepal.
