There are many people who want to make money by betting on how many goals will be scored, the margin of victory and the winning team. But by law any kind of betting is prohibited in Nepal. However, the number of people who gamble through unauthorized means is increasing.
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested 50 people from the cricket stadium in Kirtipur on the charge of live betting on Friday, Mangshir 2. Even before, the people involved in betting have been brought under the scope of action, but this activity has not been brought under control.
The police have been prosecuting these types of activities as non-betting offences. Similarly, the National Bank has also been warning people not to engage in such activities, saying that a large amount of foreign currency is embezzled through betting. On the other hand, betting activities are against the provisions of clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 5 of the Advertising (Regulation) Act, 2076, and the advertisement board is regulating them.
But as the law is weak, online betting platforms are doing business openly. Meanwhile, the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police is working to control the possible betting on World Cup football.
Stating that if a bet is made to win or lose through betting, the act will automatically be against the law, and he requested everyone not to engage in related activities during the World Cup. Action will be taken against those who bet online on World Cup football.
