The ‘Save Ghopa’ campaign accuses the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences ( BPKIHS) in Dharan of irregularities and corruption. Residents of Dharan, notably youngsters, have been holding a sit-in for months to demand a stop to irregularities at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), also known as Ghopa Camp.
The fundamental demand of the campaign is to improve the BPKIHS system and services. For the past two decades, the Ghopa Camp has been a key health institution for residents in eastern Nepal. Locals, on the other hand, claimed that the autonomous government institution had fallen victim to corruption, which had a direct impact on health services provided to the people.
‘Save Ghopa’ campaign was initiative was started by Hami Nepal, a non-profit organization. Then it was later joined by Dharan’s youth and villagers. Youths and the elderly have been addressing the campaign on a regular basis, expressing their experiences with the BPKIHS’s health services.
This movement has requests, including a high-level committee investigation into the BPKIHS and action against the offenders. They have also urged that the procurement process to be transparent.
Politics has trumped health care in the institution. As a result, we, the natives, are going to receive poor services. This campaign motive is to prohibit political appointment of staff and officials at the BPKIHS .
