No arable land in Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has submitted a report to the Ministry of Land Management and Poverty Alleviation stating that the city has no arable land.

According to Chief Administrative Officer Basanta Adhikari, the metropolis submitted the report to the ministry on Thursday. According to him, no arable land was discovered in the metropolis in accordance with the government’s guidelines for recommending arable land. “All of the land in the city is non-agricultural,” the official stated.

The plotting of land in the city will be opened following the report of the metropolis. The city had previously established a Land Use Council to classify the land under its jurisdiction. The metropolis has reported to the ministry that there is no arable land, based on the recommendation of the Land Use Council. No arable land in Kathmandu.

In the land use regulation 2079 BS, there is a provision that the chairman of the land use council shall be the mayor of the metropolis. The chief administrative officer of the metropolis has been assigned the responsibility of member secretary of the council.

According to the member-secretary and chief administrative officer of the council, all 32 wards in the metropolis had submitted papers stating that there was no arable land in their wards. The report was delivered to the metropolis’s land use implementation committee. The report was delivered to the Land Use Council by the implementation committee.

The recommendations of the implementation committee were endorsed by the council at its meeting on Wednesday.
On October 19, a second committee was constituted to make recommendations on land categorization in all 32 wards.
Ward members were tasked with serving as member secretaries on committees led by ward chairpersons.
