Parents experience difficulties registering their children’s births. According to one study, parents experience a variety of challenges when obtaining birth certificates for their children. A preliminary report produced by a Nepal-based research institute advised altering legislation to make it easier for parents to register their children’s births.

The Himal Innovative Development and Research Pvt Ltd study, which was funded by the National Child Rights Council, identified the barriers to birth registration in Nepal and proposed solutions to address them.

According to the research, birth registration of children is not possible in many situations due to the father’s or mother’s lack of citizenship credentials. There are additional issues with birth registration if the parents’ marriage is not registered and the birth registration office is far distant. According to the report, legislation must be changed to make birth registration easier. It has also advised that birth registration be done online. The paper was based on a case study of 1,671 youngsters from all seven provinces, including 859 boys and 812 females.

According to preliminary data, 95.7 percent of all child births have been registered. The remaining 5% of children’s births could not be recorded for a variety of reasons, including non-registration of marriages, divorce, migration, and parent death. According to the survey, only 23.5 percent of Dalit community members had registered their children’s birth.

Lumbini Province has the greatest rate of birth registration at 97.8 percent, while Gandaki Province has the lowest rate at 87.5 percent.
