Balen Shah & Team are working hard for waste management. Mayor Balen and his team are working hard and doing research on the waste management problem in Kathmandu. While conducting research on bio-gas, electricity generation, and composting by managing decaying waste, according to preliminary research, composting using Japanese technology has been found to be very useful, said Balen in the Municipal Council sitting yesterday. Due to the shortage of manure in the country, it is estimated that in the coming days, if the people give away the rotting and non-rotting garbage at home and work according to the plan, it will help the farmers along with solving the garbage problem of Kathmandu.
Waste Management: A big Challenge
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been facing an increasing problem over the last two decades. Population growth and urbanization has been putting greater stress on the city’s solid garbage management system. The problem of garbage disposal has become more severe in these rainy days.
According to the officials of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, sustainable garbage collection has emerged as a big challenge as the under-construction landfill site at Banchare Danda has not been completed in its stipulated time frame. KMC lacks a sustainable solution to its’ garbage disposal problem. Time and again the waste produced by the KMC faces delayed disposal as staff at the landfill site have to manage space for more garbage in the already exhausted landfill site of Sisdol.
