Hilaree Nelson, world-famous ski mountaineer found dead in Manaslu Region

Hilaree Nelson, a well-known American ski mountaineer and one of National Geographic’s 2018 Adventurers of the Year, was discovered dead in the Manaslu Region. She had been missing for a few days.

According to Liaison Officer Sachindra Kumar Yadav, who is in charge of the Manaslu expedition this season, rescuers discovered her body on Wednesday morning, two days after the avalanche.

Yadav claims her body is being brought down and will be transported to Kathmandu this afternoon after the incident report is completed.

Nelson had been missing since Monday, when one Nepalese mountaineer was reported dead in the disaster.

When the avalanche hit the mountain, the North Face athlete was reportedly skiing down from the summit.

According to her personal website, Hilaree Nelson has many “first” records in the world of ski mountaineering, including linking two 8000m peaks in one push, first ski descents on Baffin Island, first American ascent and ski descent of Papsura peak in India, and first ski descent of Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak.
